IMTARC & Camosun Seeking Candidates for a Free Shipbuilding & Ship Repair Course
Starting May 9, 2016 (and running to June 30, 2016), the Industrial Marine Training and Applied Research Centre (IMTARC) is partnering with Camosun College to offer "Passport to Shipbuilding", an introductory course on working in the shipbuilding and ship repair sector in BC.
The course is 8 weeks in length and covers essential skills (numeracy, literacy), marine terminology, various applicable certifications, and an introduction to the various jobs and skill-sets that are crucial to the sector. It also includes a one-week 'hands-on' experience working in a shipyard.
Passport to Shipbuilding is funded through the BC Government and is free to participants.
Although the course is free to attend, there is an expectation of a full-time commitment over a period of 8 weeks (5 days a week). Only those who are able to make this commitment at the outset should apply.
We are especially interested in getting women involved in the trades and other occupations in the shipbuilding and ship repair sector. We encourage women to apply to attend Passport to Shipbuilding.
Please forward this information to anyone you think would be interested in gaining work skills for a career in BC's shipbuilding and ship repair industry.
If you are an employer in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry, we hope to get your support in finding suitable candidates. Those interested in wanting to work in the shipbuilding and ship repair sector - in the trades and in other capacities - may be applying to your organization for employment. Those are the folks that might most benefit from this training. Please share this call for candidates to those individuals so that we might get them onto the course.
